Kognito Training
Kognito was really a great experience. I was able to be actively learning about how to deal with different situations that will most likely happen in my own classroom someday. I chose to do the elementary school Kognito since that's what I will be teaching. It was pretty neat how I was able to click on what I would say. I met with a girls mom about her behavior in my classroom. I learned a lot about how you need to subtly talk about it. If you just state "your daughter is disruptive" the parent is obviously going to ask why and may get offended. Once I talked with the mom for a while, she let me know that her and her husband were going through a divorce and this may be affecting the student. I was then able to understand why the student was having so many disruptive behaviors in my classroom. I was given some good tips by Kognito that I plan to use when this situation happens to me.
The other situation was about a young boy who wasn't getting his assignments turned in. He didn't have many friends and was very shy. I had him stay inside for recess to talk with me. I learned a lot about him. This gave me examples of why I need to get to know my students when I become a teacher. Kognito training gave me a good tip which was not to ask too many questions because the student may get overwhelmed. I thought this was great advice! I was able to create a stronger relationship with this student and he was able to tell me about his home life. This resulted in him answering why he can't get his homework done.
Overall, the Kognito experience was really cool. I liked how I was able to actively be involved, it wasn't just a video.
